Q. When is the first information session? What is the information session about? How long is the information session? And do I need to book for it? Can I bring my partner and kids? Will I get to see the Birth Centre? What if I cant get to the first session – will I miss out? Do I have to do an info session before I put my name down on the waiting list?


The first information session is on:
Date:         Monday 3rd February 2014
Time:        5pm-6pm
Location: Childbirth education room/Nancy’s room – Level 3 in the Maternity unit.


The information session will then be held every Monday 5-6pm in the Birth Centre.
  • The session is 1 hour long with time for questions afterwards – please bring a water bottle
  • No bookings is required
  • Partners, children and support people all welcome to the information session
  • Yes – you will get to see the new Calvary Birth Centre
  • You cannot put your name on the waiting list until you have attended an information session, your details will be taken at the information session, but you need to call to book into the birth centre after the information session


Q. When can I call to get on the waiting list, I really want to birth in the Calvary Birth Centre?
From Tuesday February 4th  you can call the CBC Admin Assistant on 02 6264 7062, to go on the waiting list, between 9:30am and 4:30pm.


Q. How do I get onto the Continuity of Midwifery Care Service (CMCS) program at the Calvary Birth Centre and how do I know if I am eligible?
There is a waiting list and you need to call the CBC Admin Assistant on 02 6264 7062 and put your name on the list BUT you MUST attend an information session first. Please refer to the brochure [PDF 520kb] for a rough guide on who is eligible. You WILL need to attend an information session before you go onto the waiting list.


Q. When is the Calvary Birth Centre opening?
The Birth Centre will be opening the waiting list on February 4th, and will be accepting women birthing (a due date) from March 1st (women may be be as far a long as 38 weeks when they enrol into the program).


Q. How many rooms are there?

There are 2 birthing rooms and 1 assessment room, a kitchen and lounge area and kids area with toys supplied.


Q. I have my name on the other Birth Centre waiting list, will I get transferred over to the Calvary Birth Centre list automatically?

No, the 2 Birth Centres are separate, so you need to put your name on the Calvary Birth Centre’s waiting list.


Q. If I have been going through an antenatal clinic, can I put my name on the waiting list here too?

Yes, your records will be transferred through to the Birth Centre midwife.


Q. I don’t live in Canberra and I want to birth in the CBC – can I?

Currently the Birth Centre is only able to take women living in the ACT.


Q. I have/I want a student midwife, am I still able to?

Yes, student midwives are welcome.


Q. Who are the midwives?

Liz, Cindy, Isabele, Siobhan, Monica, Kate and Monique.


Q. Can I have a water birth?

Women are welcome to labour in water but currently water birth is not offered.


Q. Do I still get to do antenatal classes?

The Birth Centre will run their own classes – more information will be given to the women who are enrolled into the program.


Q. Where is the new Birth Centre?

In the current maternity unit on level 3. It is down past the Antenatal clinic.


Q. I have more questions who can I speak to?

If you have attended an information session and you have more questions please feel free to contact our Admin Assistant on 02 6264 7062. Please understand that the CBC Admin Assistant will be quite busy in the beginning months and wont be able to answer every question, particularly medical questions.

The information session is a good time to ask questions, meet the midwives and see the new Birth Centre.
